How Do I Use A Custom Domain Name On My Blog?

This is most asked question from "Blogspot" Bloggers who are still managing (www.something.blogspot.com) and want to redirect/change their blogspot sub-domain to a Top Level Domain (TLD) like, (www.something.com).
NOTE:- Blogger has only two options for publishing, i.e using a blogspot sub-domain or hosting your own paid custom domain i.e (Custom Domain).
PREAMBLE:- Even though you're not buying a custom domain directly from blogger, perhaps you might have already owned a domain name, this tutorial will guide you through the process of setting up your blog for a custom domain, which will also make your blog looks professional.

1.  Go to Dashboard => Settings => Publishing, Now click on "Add A Custom Domain". Now click on "switch to advance settings" on (Step 1) if you've already have an existing domain, else use (Step 2) to buy a domain name from Blogger as shown bellow.

2.  If you're following (Step 1) as an existing domain owner then proceed to the next step.
3.  As shown bellow on (Step 3), you'll need to provide the custom domain name were you want to redirect to your your blog.

4.   After you've provided your custom domain in (Step 3), click on Save. You'll see an error message asking you to verify ownership, Now you'll see (Step 4, 5, 6) right bellow (Step 3) as a result of the error message shown above.

Now login to you Domain Registrar's Website, like in my case i registered my domain with Namecheap. So on your domain registrar's website, Go to =>My Account Settings Or Control Panel =>Manage Domain, NOTE:- (your own domain registrar might not have the same settings like Namecheap, so just find something similar). Now under "Domain Management" click on the Custom Domain you want to use on your blog, then look for "All Host Records" or something similar and click on it, you will now see something like this:-

5.  On this step you have to create a CNAME: Where it says Name, simply enter "www" and list "ghs.google.com" as the Host Name, as seen in (Step 4)
6.  Now go back to your blog and copy the verification address as seen in (No 3) (Step 5),Now add another CNAME. This is for domain ownership verification.

  • In the Host Name field, paste the first code you get in (Step 6), ex: "6rpnec453ylw".
  • In the destination field paste the second verification code you get in (Step 5), ex: "gv-23r4ozvube7ftr.dv.googlehosted.com."
(Use your own codes generated in "Step 5 and 6"

Finally go back to your blog and click Save button, it's all done!
