Samsung Impression a877 – Better Screen Leaves a Better Impression
Released for AT&T, the Samsung Impression a877 is the first commercially available cell phone in the U.S. that features an AMOLED (Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode) screen, offering sharp colors and bright graphics. The slim slider also comes with a spacious QWERTY keyboard that makes typing fast and easy, while the Samsung’s TouchWiz interface gives easy access to phone applications. All these will surely make the Impression a hot pick in the market.
The touchscreen of the Impression is undoubtedly the highlight of the phone. The large and advanced 3.2" touchscreen not only delivers rich colors and deep contrasts, but also a wide-screen display at higher resolution, yet with lower power consumption compare to regular TFT displays. The responsive touchscreen is also able to give haptic feedback with vibration every time when the user taps the display.
Running Samsung’s TouchWiz interface, the touchscreen of the Impression allows easy access to menu items with fingertip or a stylus. There is also a customizable widget bar, which enables quicker access to favorite applications. Besides offering a virtual onscreen keyboard, the Impression also has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Typing is easy and convenient since the keys on the four-row keyboard remains tactile and well spaced.
Another highlighted application is the PC Studio Manager. The multimedia set helps users transfer music, images and videos between the phone and computer. Users can also save music tracks as ringtones or make their own ones with this application. Other features include Bluetooth wireless connection for headsets and hands-free devices, as well as a 3-megapixel camera with multi-shot functions. The phone also supports instant messaging with AOL, AIM, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger.
The actual dimension of the Impression measures 4.48" (L) x 2.28" (W) x 0.61" (H) and weighs 5.3 ounces. The internal memory size is only 190MB, so users may need to make use of the MicroSDHC memory expansion, which can boost the storage size to 16GB at most. Also, users may need to get an adapter if they want to use their own headset on the device, since the Impression only comes with a proprietary headset jack.
The dark blue color scheme and curved edges definitely contribute to the eye-catching appearance of the Impression. It will surely stand out as an all-round messaging phone, especially with the big and bright AMOLED screen and overall solid performance.
