G1 Price Drop: Paving Way for MyTouch 3G?

While getting ready to roll out its second smartphone running Google’s Android OS, T-Mobile has decided to lower the price of its first Android device, the G1 (Google Phone).

As the first-ever Android solution from T-Mobile, G1 can now be purchased at a sale price of $149.99, which requires a two-year service agreement and without a mail-in rebate. Covering all of G1’s color versions, including Black, White and Bronze, the new offer is $30 less than the original price, as the phone was previously tagged at $179.99.

Market analysts noted that the price-cut hints that T-Mobile’s second Android device, most probably the MyTouch 3G, is just around the corner. Some also suggested that the carrier’s move is in an attempt to overcome keen competition from other smartphones launched recently, such as iPhone 3G S and Palm Pre, both released earlier this month.

It is expected that T-Mobile would be able to pull a large number of consumers towards G1 with the discount. The phone is no doubt an attractive device, since it is equipped with an incredibly flexible OS that offers intuitive operation, a QWERTY keyboard, as well as many other useful and easy-to-use features.
Moreover, the Android OS is getting more and more popular in the cell phone world. For those who want to join the crowd, the price-cut seems like a good deal, since G1 is surely a nice pick for entry-level Android users.
