As an environmental friendly alumino-silicate glass, Gorilla glass is designed to be lightweight, highly durable and scratch-resistant after undergoing a chemical strengthening process. The technique Corning has applied on Gorilla glass is in fact called Projected Capacitive Technology, which has been growing at a fast pace mainly as a result of Apple’s highly successful iPhone. Although Projected Capacitive Technology is not yet as commonly used as the resistive technology, it surpasses the latter one in terms of durability and transmittance, which explains the dramatic growth in sales of touchscreens using this technology.
