Palm Pixi – Lets You Communicate on Your Terms (Comparing with Palm Pre)

Design
Billed as the slimmed-down version of the Pre, the Pixi is more compact and pocketable measuring 4.37" high by 2.17" wide by 0.43" thick and weighing just 3.26 ounces. The Pixi is a candy-bar phone, unlike the Pre’s slide-out design. Instead of a center key, it has a touch-sensitive bar between the screen and the QWERTY keyboard.
Display
The Pixi sports with a 2.63-inch multi-touch screen with 18-bit colors and a 320x400-pixel resolution, which supports the same gestures for scrolling and zooming as the Pre does. It is inferior to the Pre’s 3.1-inch screen, but still works fine for reading long email and text messages. Both come embedded with an accelerometer and ambient light and proximity sensors.

Palm Synergy
Like the Pre, the Pixi uses the Palm Synergy feature to put information from Google, Facebook, Outlook, Linkedln and AIM in one simple view. For example, you can view conversations from Google Talk, AIM and SMS all in the Messaging application. The Pixi has also added Yahoo integration to the synergy profile, which means you can now synchronize your Yahoo calendar and Yahoo Messenger as well.
Multitasking
The Pixi mirrors the Pre’s multitasking ability and lets you manage many open applications at once with "Activity card" view.
Applications
The Pixi is preloaded with some applications, including a Facebook app that enables you to see and comment on all the latest news from friends and easily update their status. These apps will also be made available to existing Pre owners through a free OS update.

Web Browsing
The Pixi follows the Pre to use a full HTML Webkit-based browser. You can open multiple windows for browsing at the same time. But unlike its predecessor, the Pixi does not support Wi-Fi connectivity.

Processor
The Pixi uses a Qualcomm MSM7626 processor running at 600MHz, which is less powerful compared with the 600MHz OMAP3430 processor in the Pre.

Even with some of its limited features, the Palm Pixi is still an impressive smartphone for messaging and social networking functionality. If you like the Palm’s Synergy technology, but want a more pocketable and budget-friendly device for staying within your social circle, the Pixi is definitely your choice.
