Casio G’zOne Rock – the Rugged All-in-one Handset for Adventurers

As the latest member of the Casio G’zOne series, the G’zOne Rock continues the ruggedness of its predecessors, bringing Verizon customers a durable construction that can endure a variety of environmental hazards. Together with a set of outdoor activity tools, push-to-talk feature and high-speed 3G network, it is a rugged and functional handset designed for people with active lifestyles.

Made of silicon rubber and reinforced plastic, the Rock has a firm exterior that is able to withstand military standards for shock, vibration, humidity, high and low temperatures and other tough conditions. Despite its toughness, the handset remains fairly compact and portable at 4.09 by 2.00 by 0.86 inches and weighing 4.07 ounces.
Outdoorsmen will like the G’zGear suite of six unique applications – Earth Compass, Walking Counter, Thermometer, Astro Calendar, Sunrise Sunset and Tides, which are made for outdoor pursuits and sports such as fishing, hiking and climbing. For example, the Tides application shows the current tide and tells you the best time for fishing, while hikers will find the GPS -enabled compass very useful.

The Rock sports with a 2.1-inch main display that shows 65k colors and displays 240x320-pixel resolution. There are a 0.9-inch external display and touch-sensitive music controls surrounding the sub-display. You can use the controls to access the integrated music player, which supports various audio formats, including MIDI, AMR, MP3, AAC, WMA and MPEG4. Verizon also offers V CAST Music with Rhapsody for over-the-air music downloads, V CAST Video for video streaming, and the VZ Navigator GPS service.

In addition, the Rock offers some useful talk-related features. Apart from the push-to-talk function for fast two-way communication, it comes loaded with Field Force Manager, a resource management tool that provides businesses with the ability to locate, monitor and communicate with their mobile field workers. You will also find a speakerphone, an one-touch open switch, voice digit dialing and voice commands.

Messaging options include text and multimedia messaging, mobile IM (AOL, Windows Live and Yahoo) and email. Users also get stereo Bluetooth, Mobile Web 2.0, a 2.5mm headset jack, a 2.0-megapixel camera with LED flash, a 500-entry phone book, 256MB of flash memory and a microSD card slot for up to 16GB of external storage.

Being practical and reliable without neglecting some multimedia features, the Casio G’zOne Rock is certainly a phone that you will enjoy both indoors and outdoors.
