Samsung Convoy SCH-u640 – A Sturdy Walkie-talkie Phone for Verizon

The Convoy is tested to meet military specifications for a range of environmental hazards – heat, humidity and solar radiation will not affect its performance. With rubber bumpers along its sides, the phone is resistant to shock and comfortable to hold in the hand. It measures 3.85 by 2 by 0.94 inches (H x W x D) when closed and weighs 3.88 ounces.
The Convoy boasts dual displays: the 2.2-inch internal one shows 262,000 colors and 220x176 pixels, while the 1.3-inch external one supports 65,000 colors and 128x128 pixels. Below the front display you will find three dedicated music buttons, which will lead you to the built-in music player. File formats such as MP3, M4A, WMA and WMV are supported. However, instead of a 3.5mm headset jack, the Convoy only comes with a 2.5mm port.
Besides, users will find a set of comprehensive voice features on the device. The Convoy supports Verizon’s push-to-talk network, allowing you to instantly connect with co-workers and engage in two-way communications on the job. Voice commands, voice dialing, voice recording and speakerphone are onboard as well.
The Convoy offers Verizon’s standard messaging package, which include text and multimedia messaging, instant messaging with AIM, Yahoo Messenger and Windows Live Messenger, as well as mobile email, which works with Gmail, AOL, Yahoo Mail, Windows Live Mail and other POP3 email accounts.
Other essential features are stereo Bluetooth, integrated GPS, USB mass storage, a 1,000-contact phone book, a WAP 2.0 browser, plus a 2.0-megapixel camera with digital zoom, night mode, panorama and video capturing capabilities. Verizon also offers VZ Navigator, V CAST Music with Rhapsody and V CAST Video services. You will find 90MB onboard memory and a microSD card slot for 16GB maximum memory expansion.
While the Samsung Convoy is not as feature-rich as other high-end devices, its durability, dependability and PTT support makes it special in its own way.
