Palm Pixi Plus – Incredibly Thin and Sleek

Available exclusively from Verizon Wireless, the Palm Pixi Plus is released as a slimmed down and more affordable version of the Pre Plus. Though this also means downgrading some features, the phone still gets the benefit of a physical keyboard, a unique messaging system and Wi-Fi connectivity, which means you can stay socially connected easily as usual.

Ditching the slide-out keyboard of its sibling, the Pixi Plus boasts a longer and thinner candy-bar form factor with a fixed full QWERTY keyboard. The touchscreen now measures 2.63 inches and shows 320x400 resolutions, but still has a touch bar and the multi-touch ability. An accelerometer, an ambient light sensor and a proximity sensor are embedded as well. At just 3.26 ounces and 2.17" wide by 4.37" high by 0.43" thick, the Pixi Plus will not weigh your bag or pocket down at all.

Operating on the same WebOS 1.3, the Pixi Plus uses Palm’s innovative Synergy technology to collect all your SMS, MMS, emails, instant messages and social networking messages into a unified conversation thread with each individual contact. It also pulls your contact information from various sources on the Web, such as social networks like Facebook and email accounts like Gmail, and therefore, your social life is always well organized.

Multimedia features remain pretty much the same on the Pixi Plus. You still get a 3.5mm stereo jack and a media player that supports music and video formats like MP3, ACC, WAV and MPEG-4. Although access to Verizon’s V Cast Music and Video is not included, you can purchase songs from Amazon MP3 Store and stream video clips from YouTube. Downgraded from its sibling’s 3.0-megapixel camera, the Pixi Plus has a 2.0-megapixel camera with LED flash, geo-tagging and video capturing capabilities.

Using Verizon’s 3G Mobile Hotspot application, you can turn the Pixi Plus into a mobile Wi-Fi router for up to five devices. You get a range of functional productivity applications such as viewers for Microsoft Office files and PDA files, and more are available from Palm App Catalog. The handset offers 8GB of memory storage, half of that of the Pre Plus. Built-in GPS and stereo Bluetooth are on board as well.

Comes at a lower price while taking full advantage of Palm’s intuitive WebOS, the Pixi Plus is a solid, compact and enjoyable smartphone for multi-tasking and social networking users of the younger generations.
