Smartphone Owners Ready for Mobile Advertising

According to the report, 36 percent of smartphone users said that among various types of mobile advertising concepts, they are most interested in receiving grocery coupons. Other items consumers showing favorable interest include scannable barcodes (29 percent), offers to save and pursue at leisure (26 percent), movie theatre offers and promotions (26 percent), location-based ads via SMS (21 percent) and travel website coupons (20 percent). Straightforward SMS ads, which we receive frequently on our cell phones, were in fact the least desirable, with only 15 percent of the respondents expressing interest.
The web analytics company noted that the strong demand shown by one-fifth of the smartphone owners bodes well for the mobile marketing industry, considering it is still in its early stage. To bring these concepts from higher-end smartphones to mainstream feature phones, "brands need to focus on engaging and driving behavior of these early adopters", said Compete.
Meanwhile, the company also found that as much as 74 percent of the respondents now use their smartphones primarily for entertainment and personal reasons instead of professional purposes, despite the fact that the devices were originally introduced for busy business professionals. Also, smartphones are being actively used at various time throughout the day: 84 percent of smartphone owners use their devices at home; 80 percent during downtime; 74 percent while waiting in lines or for appointments; and 69 percent while shopping.
Following this trend, it is foreseeable that smartphone owners will engage more and more with their handsets in their daily lives, presenting a golden opportunity for brands and advertisers to spread their new information, concepts and products.
