Samsung Zeal SCH-u750 – A Uniquely Good-looking Messaging Device
Optimized for quick messaging, the Samsung Zeal SCH-u750 for Verizon Wireless is a two-way flip phone with an innovative E-Ink technology keypad that changes its symbols based on what you need. While it resembles the Alias 2, its predecessor, in many ways, the Zeal includes some new apps to make itself a worthwhile follow-up.
The Zeal has a 1.3-inch (128x128-pixel) external CSTN display and a 2.6-inch (320x240-pixel) internal TFT display. At 4.01" high by 2.04" wide and 0.67" deep and 4.34 ounces, it is quite lightweight and pocket-sized.
Boasting the same dual-hinge clamshell design of the Alias 2, the Zeal opens in both portrait and landscape modes. If you open it vertically, a traditional numeric keypad will appear for dialing phone calls, while in texting mode, the buttons will transform into a four-row QWERTY keyboard.
With such an intuitive keypad, the Zeal naturally comes with full email and messaging options. Not only can you send and receive threaded text and multimedia messages, you can also engage in IM chats via Instant Messaging. Besides, mobile e-mail gives you access to AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail and other email accounts. Using the RemoSync app for Microsoft Office Exchange, you can synchronize corporate emails, contacts and calendars from your office PC.
The Zeal is also preloaded with a few additional apps. Social Beat, a social network aggregating app, is onboard for keeping you connected to Facebook, Twitter and MySpace all the time. And with Skype Mobile, you can make and receive Skype-to-Skype calls on Verizon's network.
As for the entertainment department, there are three touch-sensitive music controls located on the front for the built-in multi-format music player. You can buy songs from Verizon's V Cast Music with Rhapsody via 3G. And as an GPS-enabled phone, the Zeal is compatible with VZ navigator for GPS turn-by-turn directions. Other services brought by the carrier include mobile WAP browsing, Visual Voice Mail, Family Locator and VZW Backup Assistant.
Last but no least, the phone itself sports Bluetooth capabilities, a 2.0-megapixel auto-focus camera with 10X digital zoom, a 2.5mm headset jack, a 1000-entry address book, a speakerphone, plus a microSD card slot with support for up to 32GB external memory.
Unique, well-built and comfortable to use, the Samsung Zeal is an all-round texting phone with a cool form factor that appeals to the younger generations.
