Motorola Droid Pro – Android’s First Enterprise-ready Smartphone
The Motorola Droid Pro (XT610), released for Verizon Wireless, is Android's first attempt to take aim at corporate users. Other than a business-friendly design combining a touchscreen and a full keyboard, the Droid Pro is also integrated with enterprise-level security, dual-mode functionality, mobile hot spot capabilities and other productivity features that make it an intuitive smartphone suitable for both work and personal use.
Sharing a similar form factor with many BlackBerry devices, the Droid Pro is long and thin at 4.68" high by 2.40" wide and 0.46" deep, and has a weight of 4.73 ounces. The slate is dominated by a 3.1-inch HGVA (320 x 480) multi-touch display with haptic feedback and pinch-to-zoom functionality. Below the screen there is a QWERTY keyboard optimized for quick texting entry.
As an Android 2.2 (Froyo) device, the Droid Pro offers deep integration of a set of Google services, such as Google Calendar, Google Contact Sync, Google Maps with Navigation and Street View, Google Search by Voice, Google Quick Search Box and the Android Market. You also get the standard Android HTML Webkit browser with support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1. Some other preloaded apps include Youtube, Picasa, Ouickoffice Mobile, Skype Mobile, File Manager, VZ Navigator and Verizon Visual Voice Mail.
Touted as an enterprise-centric smartphone, the Droid Pro comes with full support for IMAP and POP email, Microsoft Exchange, Gmail, MSN Hotmail, Yahoo Mail and AOL. It also allows synchronization with Gmail, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn contacts, to name just a few. Instant messaging options include Google Talk, AOL, Yahoo Messenger and Windows Live Messenger. Text messaging and multimedia messaging are on board as well.
In addition, the 3G- and Wi-Fi-enabled phone has the ability to double as a 3G mobile hotspot for connecting up to five other devices via Wi-Fi. And to enhance security, it sports remote device and SD card wipe, complex password and VPN integration.
Moreover, the smartphone is equipped with a 5.0-megapixel camera with dual LED flash for snapping shots and recording DVD-quality video clips. Its built-in Android music and media player is compatible with MP3, AAC, AAC+, H.263, H.264, MPEG-4, and AMR NB files. You also get a 3.5mm headset jack, stereo Bluetooth, an accelerometer, an ambient light sensor, a proximity sensor, eCompass, 2GB of internal memory, and a memory expansion slot for microSD card up to 32GB.
