HTC EVO Shift 4G – Sprint’s Latest 4G Smartphone

The HTC EVO Shift 4G, adding an easy-to-use slide-out keyboard to the attractive design of the EVO 4G, is the third smartphone to run on Sprint's 4G network. Like its sibling, the new EVO boasts some impressive features such as Android 2.2, HTC Sense and mobile hotspot functionality, but is now attached with a less costly price tag.

Compared to its predecessor, the EVO Shift 4G has a more pocket-friendly form factor, measuring 4.61" high by 2.32" wide by 0.59" deep and weighing 5.85 ounces. As mentioned, the smartphone now sports a QWERTY keyboard in addition to a 3.6-inch 800x480 262K-color capacitive multi-touch screen. There are also a proximity sensor, an accelerometer, an ambient light sensor along with a digital compass.
The new EVO is powered by Android 2.2 (Froyo) with HTC Sense, which brings users a complete socially connected experience. The Sense interface not only offers seven home screens that you can customize with widgets and shortcuts, it also lets you easily interact with friends across various social networks using Friend Stream. And as usual, you could expect full integration with assorted Google mobile applications, such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Maps with Street View, Google Maps Navigation, Google Search by voice, and YouTube. Moreover, the new Android OS offers Adobe Flash support to its full HTML Web browser.

Like every Android device, the EVO Shift 4G features robust email and messaging capabilities. While there is full support for access to multiple corporate and personal email accounts, you can also engage in instant messaging via popular clients, including AIM, Google Talk, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger. You will find text and multimedia messaging with threaded chat view as well.

A number of multimedia goodies are on board as well: a 5-megapixel camera with 720p HD video capture, a music player, a video player and an FM radio. With built-in mobile hotspot capability, the smartphone can share 3G or 4G wireless connectivity with up to eight Wi-Fi-enabled devices. And preloaded with several apps like Sprint TV, Sprint Navigation, TeleNav GPS Navigation, Amazon Kindle and Amazon MP3 Store, the EVO Shift 4G proves itself a full-featured smartphone right out of the box.

Last but not least, you will find many other useful features, including Bluetooth, GPS, speakerphone, voice dialing, a 3.5mm audio jack, 2GB internal memory and microSD expansion up to 32 GB.

In short, if you are looking for an Android 4G device with a physical keyboard and don't mind the lack of a front-facing camera, the HTC EVO Shift 4G would be the one to go for.
