Your Unwanted Phone at Home Values Far More Than You Think

What do you do, if you can ever remember, with your unwanted mobile phones? Or have you actually done anything? A research found that half of the population in the UK has ditched at least one unused mobile phone in their homes, letting it gather dust. CompareMyMobile.com, an online company comparing prices for mobile phone recycling, has conducted the research intending to find out how the Britons deal with recycling unused handsets.

According to the report, there are nearly 50 million old or unused mobile phones hoarding in British homes, among which 14% have four or more handsets no longer in use. Assuming all these handsets are put into recycling, more than a jaw-dropping £1 billion can be generated for UK households. Yes, you read it right.

One may wonder, given that Britain is now in difficult economic times, why people are just letting this enormous fortune slipping through their fingers? The answer, according to the research, is simple—people just have no idea what the unwanted phones lying in their drawers or cupboards were worth. In fact, 60% of the respondents do not realise that they can actually make money from the sidelined gadgets by simply recycling them.

There are quite a number of phone recycling companies online. The companies will usually state the price of a particular make and model on their websites. Generally speaking, old models of Nokia or Samsung can be worth up to £100 and that of BlackBerry or HTC may vary, from £50 to £150. Apart from selling your old phones to phone recycling companies, you may also donate them to charity so as to put these unwanted devices to good use.

The truth is, you can do a lot of things with the old handset you have dispensed with but leaving it somewhere in your home is the least recommended. Be a responsible mobile user!
