Samsung & LG: the Big Players of Touchscreen Phones
Samsung and LG, the two leading Korean cell phone makers, have each announced selling more than 20 million touchscreen phones around the world, as reported by Telecoms Korea News Service.
The two firms are the 2nd and the 4th biggest cell phone supplier in the world respectively; it took both of them around 2 years to reach the 20-million milestone. Samsung has developed some big winners in the past two years, which come with its TouchWiz user interface, such as the Omnia (i900) and the Instinct (m800), while LG’s offers include the Voyager (VX10000), the Dare (VX9700) and the Incite (CT810).
When talking about touchscreen phones, we should never miss out one of the most important accessories – stylus. It always gives more accurate pinpoint movements, being especially useful during on-screen text entry.
However, these styluses will not work on your handset if you are using iPhone or T-Mobile G1 (Google Phone). These two phones have capacitive screens, which only react to electric currents but not pressure points. Therefore, you will have to get one that is tailor-made for this type of screen. For example, iPhone users should pick a touch stylus pen particular for iPhone and Apple products.
Obviously the touchscreen handset wars will continue to heat up since many manufacturers are getting ready to bring in new models. The global sales of touchscreen phones will probably reach 500 million by 2012, according to market analysts.

The future looks bright for both manufacturers. Besides the Omnia HD (i8910), Samsung has recently announced its first Android handset, i7500, which will probably come this June. LG, at the same time, has just launched the LG Arena that features an appealing 3D interface. The LG enV Touch (a.k.a. the Voyager 2) is also expected to be showed up shortly.

Most of today’s touchscreen handsets come with a touch-resistive screen that detects pressure points for operation. Users of this type of screen usually have more choices in styluses. You can have a 4-in-1 PDA Stylus Pen that combines different writing tools, or a Bluetooth Stylus Pen that works as both stylus and Bluetooth headset, or even Finger Stylus, so you can tap the screen directly with finger instead of holding a stylus.
