Motorola Backflip – AT&T’s Revolutionary Android Smartphone with MOTOBLUR

The Motorola Backflip, a unique reverse flip phone with both its keyboard and touchscreen facing out, is released for AT&T. Boasting Android 1.5, MOTOBLUR and a QWERTY keyboard, the Backflip is a social-centric phone that enables you to always stay updated with your buddies.

Unlike most Android powered devices, the Backflip has a one-of-a-kind "inside-out" design. When closed, the keyboard and screen are both located on the outside. Swinging it open you will find a Backtrack touch panel behind the screen, allowing you to navigate freely without blocking the display. You can also flip it into a half-opened V-shape, which transforms it into a tabletop video player, digital photo frame, music player or alarm clock.

Measuring 3.1 inches, the 256k TFT (320 x 480 pixels) capacitive touchscreen features double-tap support for zooming in. It is also equipped with an accelerometer for automatic switch between landscape and portrait mode when you are using certain applications, such as the Android Webkit browser and Google Maps. The handset measures 4.25" tall by 2.08" wide by 0.60" thick and weighs 4.7 ounces.

As mentioned, the Backflip uses the MOTOBLUR software, which merges your emails, texts and messages from various social networking sites (Facebook, MySpace and Twitter) together into the customizable home screen. Users can view contact information in groups or by contact history. Your IMAP, POP3 and Corporate emails are also combined into a universal in-box. As for instant messaging, you also get various options: AIM, Windows Messenger, Yahoo Messenger and Google Talk.

A number of multimedia features are onboard as well. You will find an integrated media player that supports AAC, H.263, H.264, MP3, MPEG-4, WAV, MIDI and AAC+ files. Other media-related applications include AT&T Music and Video, Youtube and Amazon MP3 store. Beside, the phone comes with a 5.0-megapixel auto-focus camera with LED flash, 4x digital zoom and video recording capabilities.

As AT&T’s first Android phone, the Backflip is packed with some extra AT&T services such as AT&T Navigator, AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots and Mobile Banking. More apps and widgets can be found on the Android Market. Furthermore, the Backflip offers QuickOffice suite, Bluetooth, 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi support, aGPS, voice dialing and speakerphone. It is outfitted with a 3.5mm headset jack and a expansion slot that accommodates a microSD card up to 32GB.

The Motorola Backflip is a powerful smartphone full of advanced capabilities you have ever wanted – social networking, multitasking and customization. Together with its refreshing reverse folding mechanism, it proves itself to be a solid choice for AT&T messaging fans and first-time smartphone users.
