Apple iPhone 4 – More Attractive, Powerful and Innovative (Comparing with iPhone 3GS)

After months of waiting, U.S. customers can finally get their hands on Apple's latest smartphone, the iPhone 4. Like the 3G S, the iPhone 4 is now available exclusively from AT&T in two types of memory capacity: 16GB and 32GB. Not only is it powered by the newest version of Apple's mobile platform, iOS 4, it also packs a more elegant design, a gorgeous screen, a front-facing camera and loads of amazing new features. Now, let's take a look at some of the most significant changes the new iPhone brings to the table.

Design
Compared with the previous model, the iPhone 4 has a more durable and scratch-resistant glass housing. Apple has abandoned the old curved back in favor of a flat surface. The stainless steel band mounted around the device now doubles as an antenna. Although the iPhone 4 shares the same height as its predecessor, it is slightly thinner and narrower, measuring 4.5 inches tall by 2.31 inches wide by 0.37 inches deep. They weigh almost the same at 4.8 ounces. The iPhone 4 comes in two color options: black and white.

Screen Display
One of the best improvements of the iPhone 4 is its new high-resolution Retina display. The 3.5-inch display now features 940 by 640 pixels, which is four times sharper than the previous iPhone. And thanks to the same IPS technology used in the iPad display, the new screen offers a wider viewing angle for brighter and sharper images.

Multitasking
Among a list of new features brought by the iOS4, the ability to multitask is certainly the biggest upgrade. Apple has extended the support for multitasking from native iPhone features to third-party apps like navigation apps, gaming apps and music streaming apps. That means not only can you perform other tasks while playing music in the background, you can also seamlessly switch between recently used apps in a multitasking user interface.

Camera
The 3-megapixel camera is upgraded to a 5-megapixel one with built-in LED flash and backside illumination sensor. It supports HD video recording in 720p (1280 by 720 pixels) format at 30 frames per second. And with the new iMovie app, you can easily edit your video clips, add themes and share them with the world. Besides, Apple has added a VGA-quality camera on the front for video-conferencing. Using the new FaceTime feature, you can have a video chat with another iPhone 4 user over Wi-Fi. It works in both portrait and landscape modes.

A4 Processor
Equipped with Apple's A4 processor, the same one powering the iPad, the iPhone 4 is more responsive and speedy than the 3GS. Its battery performance is improved as well.

Noise-canceling Microphones
The iPhone 4 has two new noise-suppression microphones, one located on the top and one on the bottom, which offer better call quality than its predecessor even in noisy environments.

Three-axis Gyro
To enhance your motion gaming experience, the iPhone 4 is built in with a new three-axis gyroscope. It works with the accelerometer to provide six-axis controls. Now you can use motion gestures such as pitching, rolling and yawing.

The iPhone 4 is no doubt a big leap forward compared with the 3GS. With a novel design and a slew of new goodies, it certainly looks and performs better. It is a perfect combination of a smartphone, a media player, a gaming console and a camera, which easily comes out on top in AT&T's smartphone lineup.
