AT&T has added another Android-based device, the HTC Aria, to its smartphone offering. Despite its pocket size, the Aria comes with plenty of nice features that make it a fun, stylish and appealing handset geared toward first-time Android users.

At first glance, the Aria has much in common with the Droid Incredible, another HTC Droid phone. But in fact, it is more compact and portable by measuring 4.1" high by 2.3" wide by 0.46" deep and weighing 4.05 ounces. Although its petite size also means a smaller capacitive touchscreen (3.2 inches), the screen is still sharp and vibrant by showing 262k colors and 480x320-pixel resolution. It also supports pinch-to-zoom gestures and works with a built-in accelerometer.

Like the Droid Incredible, the Aria runs on Android version 2.1 with HTC's Sense user interface. So you get the standard Sense features, including "Scenes", "Leap" and multiple customizable home screen panels. Preloaded with HTC's FriendStream app, the phone keeps you socially connected by giving you updates from friends on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and other online communities. You also get the Peep Twitter app and the Footprint photo geo-tagging app.

As usual, Google throws in a number of useful applications, such as Google Talk, Google Maps Navigation, QuickOffice and YouTube. You can download a lot more from the Android Market. The only drawback is that the Aria does not support applications that are not from the Market.

The phone also sports an Android's WebKit Web browser with support for Flash Lite and multiple windows. Other instant messaging options include AIM, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger. Email features include POP3/IMAP, corporate email sync and Push Gmail. In addition, you will find some AT&T services, such as MobiTV, Mobile Video, AT&T Navigator, YP Mobile and AT&T Hotspot.

The Aria itself is integrated with a 5.0-megapixel auto-focus camera with video recording capability. Its built-in music and video players are compatible with files in MP3, AAC, WMA, MP4, 3GP and other formats. It is also outfitted with a 3.5mm headphone jack. Text and multimedia messaging, stereo Bluetooth, 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS/APGS are onboard as well. Apart from 512MB ROM and 384MB RAM of internal memory, the phone also accepts microSD card up to 32GB.

The HTC Aria has managed to incorporate a great deal of user-friendly features into its cute little body. It may not be the most feature rich smartphone among other Android devices, but is definitely a worthy addition to AT&T's lineup considering its size.
